A 6 week course: Learning the fundamentals of Quilting and Patchwork. Over the course of the six weeks you will learn and put into practice a number of techniques whilst creating a number of different blocks for you to make into a table runner or small sample quilt to take home at the end of the course. Week one: - Look at choosing suitable fabrics, how to select colours and tones of fabrics using the colour wheel. - How to mix the various prints and designing your blocks. - How to measure and cut fabric pieces for patchwork safely and accurately using a rotary cutter, cutting mat and quilting rulers. Week two: - An introduction to the basics of quilting and patchwork looking at various types of quilt blocks. - How to join units accurately, press seams and achieve a sharp finish. - Make your first block. Week three: - Block making. Week four: - Block making. Week five: - Block making. Week six: - Piece the sample blocks together and make a quilt sandwich. - Quilt and bind the table runner. - How to make a quilt sandwich. - How to quilt your quilt. - How to square up your quilt. - How to make quilt binding and attach this to your quilt. Should you wish to make an additional 6 blocks and create a sample quilt instead of a table runner, you can continue making more block designs in Learn to Quilt - Sample Blocks Part 2 to add to those made during Part 1 and make up the sample quilt at the end of Part 2.
