I am a hand engraver using traditional techniques of "push engraving" with a graver, hammer and chisel, and power assist using GRS and Pulsegraver systems. I have studied in Florence Italy, USA, Luxembourg, Belgium and the UK. I have won numerous hand engraving awards over the years and compliment my commission work with teaching which I love.
"I booked a one to one intro to hand engraving and cannot recommend John and his courses enough! I learnt how to size, shape and sharpen gravers, how to hold them correctly and how to cut straight and curved lines.
Johns approach was to clearly teach the basic principles in how engraving works - it made so much sense and has given me such a deeper understanding of what I’m doing, the experience was invaluable and I can’t wait to get practicing!!
I am sure that I will be returning to John in future when I’m ready to learn more.
Thank you so much! :) "
"John's engraving course was extremely helpful for my engraving journey as a jeweller. Most engraving courses don't teach you the fundamentals, so oftentimes you're left to figure things out by yourself. All the skills taught by John during this course will allow me to make my own tools, custom to my own hand, as well as to start selling engraved products after some practice with the cuts and techniques he taught me. I highly recommend learning from John, especially if you want to streamline the skills you learn, towards jewellery making. Once I am able to, I would definitely return to learn more intermediate and advanced skills from John. "
"I had such an amazing time learning from John. I 100% recommend this course to anyone interested in starting hand engraving. I now have the confidence to practice on my own and implement everything I learned onto rings and pendants for my jewellery business. "
"I spent a fantastic day learning hand engraving with John. Plentiful supply of tea and an absolute treasure trove of information. A true mastercraftsman who understands the critical theory and practice behind his craft. I wanted to engrave to produce prints (think 16th century Durer), but he also engraves beautiful jewellery and anything else you can think of. Amazing experience. "
