I trained as a cabinetmaker 50 years ago.
As a mature student, I obtained a first class honours degree in antique furniture conservation and restoration. I set up my business, Peter White Furniture, where for the last 20 years I have been restoring and upholstering antique furniture for clients. Now in my upholstery studio, and under the name of 'The upholstery tutor' I offer upholstery courses where students will learn to upholster their own chair using traditional techniques and materials. Based in a rural setting overlooking the Warwickshire countryside.
"I have done a couple of sessions on my chair so far, and I am delighted. I am a complete upholstery novice and Peter is an excellent tutor, shows what to do, leaves you to it, but is available if needed for advice and help. If I had one criticism it is that he makes it all look a great deal more easy than it actually is, but that comes with his decades of experience, obviously... Highly recommended. "
"Peter is a fabulous teacher. Patient, vigilant, supportive and he also makes a great cuppa! I'm on my second chair project with Peter having thoroughly enjoyed working on project number 1, and I know with Peter's guidance and expertise I'll develop my understanding of traditional upholstery even further. "
"I am coming back to upholstery after a break of a few years. I did my first session yesterday and loved every minute of it. Peter is very knowledgeable, explains everything so simply and is so encouraging. It was a real pleasure and looking forward to booking more sessions so that I can finish my chair. Thank you Peter. "
